Licensing
Which terms apply to the code, the documentation, and the content that servers submit.
Not legal advice
This page is a policy statement. It must be reviewed by a qualified lawyer before it is relied on.
Different parts of the project carry different rights. They are listed separately so that nobody has to guess.
| Part | Terms |
|---|---|
| Source code, scripts and tests | MIT |
| JSON schemas | MIT |
| Documentation | Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) |
| Server metadata and images | Submitted content, under the terms below |
| Synthetic example media | MIT, generated by the project's own script |
Submitted content
Images and text describing a Minecraft network usually belong to that network, or to a third party whose trademark they show. The project does not take ownership of them.
By opening a pull request that adds or changes a server, you:
- confirm that you own the content, or have the owner's permission to submit it;
- grant the project a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, re-encode, resize, publish and distribute the content as part of the Owl server media catalog;
- keep all other rights, including ownership.
The licence ends when the content is removed from the catalog, except for copies distributed before the removal.
Trademarks
Server names, logos and brands belong to their owners. Their use identifies the server. It does not imply endorsement by the owner or by the Owl Client.
Removal
A rights holder can ask for removal through the repository's issue tracker or the private contact in the security policy. A valid request is handled by a pull request that deletes the content. If the server must not return, its identifier is retired.
