Server Media
Server Media
How the Owl Client learns a server's name, addresses and images.
Server Media is the dataset behind server pages and server listings in the Owl Client. For each server it records a stable identifier, the addresses players use to join, a short description, the Minecraft versions and game types, a brand color, and optional images.
The dataset is stored as plain files in a Git repository. Nothing is entered through a web form. This is deliberate: every change is visible, reviewed and reversible.
Principles
- Data, not code. A server is described by a JSON file and up to four images. Nothing in a submission runs.
- Strict by default. Unknown fields are rejected. Images are checked by their content, not their name.
- Stable identity. A server keeps its identifier when its name changes. Retired identifiers are never reused.
- Reproducible output. The same input always produces the same published bytes.
